For God so loved the world, that he gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

OUR NAME

We call ourselves the “Free Reformed Church of Melville”. We were instituted in 2014 as part of a bond of churches known as the Free Reformed Churches of Australia (FRCA). As a federation of Christian churches, we accept that true believers are part of the one, holy, universal Christian church which Jesus Christ, as the Son of God and our saviour, gathers in this world.

“Reformed” Our Reformed heritage traces back to the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century, identified with such reformers as Martin Luther, John Calvin and John Knox. The Reformation brought the Church of Christ back to its Biblical foundation and re-emphasised the primacy of the Bible’s central doctrines: By Grace alone, by Faith alone, of Christ alone, by Scripture alone and Glory to God alone.

“Free” Our church is “Free” Reformed. The word “Free” indicates our desire to remain free from the hierarchy of broader church assemblies and free from false doctrines. We honour the position of the local church as the only ecclesiastical assembly which has received authority from Christ, and which answers to Christ alone. Because we are convinced of the need for mutual support, we belong to a federation of churches. In order to maintain unity in this federation, we promise to submit to all decisions made in the broader assemblies which agree with the Word of God and the Church Order (system of church government).
